GU10 LED Spotlight Bulb 4W 250lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 3000K

This is a 4W GU10 LED spotlight bulb that gives 250 lumens of warm white light at 3000K. It uses the familiar GU10 twist and lock cap, the one with two short pins on the end that push into the holder and turn a quarter turn to lock, so no transformer or driver is involved. The face is a plain frosted dome rather than a faceted mirror reflector, which spreads the output evenly across the front instead of throwing a bright centre spot, and the body is white. The retail pack gives 35W as the halogen wattage this replaces.

GU10 is the standard fitting for ceiling downlights, track heads, plinth spots and cabinet lights in UK homes, so this drops straight into most spotlight holders already on the ceiling. The 100 degree beam is broad for a spot: it washes a wide area rather than picking out a single object, which suits a run of downlights over a kitchen worktop, a hallway, or a living room ceiling where you want even cover between fittings. If you want tight pools of light on artwork or a bar top, a narrower beam angle will serve you better. At 250 lumens each, plan on several across a room rather than one or two.

The bulb is not dimmable, so pair it with an ordinary on and off switch; on a dimmer circuit a non-dimmable lamp can flicker, buzz or fail early. It runs on standard 220 to 240V mains. The energy rating is F, and the energy label declares 3kWh per 1000 hours of use. The pack prints a life of up to 10 years and says the lamp uses 91% less energy than the one it replaces. Each unit is a single bulb, with a minimum order of 12. Will this fit my existing spotlights?

If the old bulb has two small pins that twist and lock into the holder, it is a GU10 and this will fit. Pins that push straight in without twisting are GU5.3 or MR16 and run on 12V, so they are not compatible.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification states it is not dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. Run on a dimmer, a non-dimmable LED may flicker, buzz or reach the end of its life early.

How bright is 250 lumens in practice?

The pack rates it as a replacement for a 35W halogen, which is a modest spotlight output. Over a kitchen or hallway, space several across the ceiling rather than relying on one or two for the whole room.

What does 3000K warm white look like?

It is a soft, slightly yellow white, warmer than office lighting and easier on the eye in living spaces. It sits between the very warm 2700K of old filament lamps and neutral 4000K cool white.

What does the 100 degree beam cover?

That is a wide spread for a spotlight, so each bulb lights a broad patch of floor or worktop below it and the pools overlap more readily between neighbouring downlights.

Does it need a transformer?

No. GU10 lamps run directly on 220 to 240V mains, so the bulb goes straight into the holder with no driver or transformer to add or replace.
