GU10 LED Spotlight Bulb 3.1W 250lm Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is a GU10 LED spotlight that draws 3.1W and gives 250 lumens, at a colour temperature of 6,500K. That is the cool, blue-white end of the scale, sold as daylight, and about as crisp as household light gets. The beam spreads to 110 degrees, wide for a spotlight and closer to a general wash of light than a tight pool. The retail pack rates the output as equal to a 35W conventional spot, carries an energy rating of G, and confirms the lamp is not dimmable.

GU10 is the twist and lock cap used in most recessed ceiling downlights, track heads and under-cabinet spots fitted over the last twenty years. Two stubby pins drop into the holder and turn a quarter turn to lock, so if the bulb you are taking out has two pins rather than a screw thread, this is the right shape. The wide 110 degree spread suits a run of downlights over a worktop or along a hallway ceiling, where narrower beams can leave scalloped shadows on the walls between fittings. Daylight white renders colour honestly, so it earns its keep in a utility room, a garage, a workshop or a home office, and is a bolder choice above a sofa.

There is no dimming, so keep this off any circuit with a dimmer: a non-dimmable LED on a dimmer tends to flicker, buzz or fail early. The pack prints a lamp life of 10 years or 10,000 hours and more than 10,000 switching cycles, which matters on a light flicked on and off all day. At IP20 it belongs in dry indoor fittings only. Will this fit my existing GU10 downlights?

Yes, provided the holder takes a GU10 cap. The two pins push into the holder and turn a quarter turn to lock. GU10 runs on mains voltage, so no transformer is involved.

Is 250 lumens bright enough for a kitchen ceiling?

On its own it is modest, closer to accent level. Across a run of five or six downlights it gives a usable working level, and the 110 degree beam keeps the spread even.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification and the pack both give it as non-dimmable, so on a dimmer circuit expect flicker, buzzing or an early failure. Choose a dimmable GU10 for that circuit.

How does 6,500K daylight compare with warm white?

It reads clean and slightly blue beside the yellow of a 2,700K or 3,000K lamp. Mixing the two in one ceiling shows, so keep a single room to one colour temperature.

Why does an LED this low in wattage carry a G energy rating?

The energy label for this lamp shows class G and a consumption of 4kWh per 1,000 hours. The class measures efficiency against the current scale, not how well the light performs.

Will it physically clear a shallow downlight housing?

The pack diagram prints 50mm across the face and 60mm overall, which is the standard GU10 envelope, so it should drop into any holder built for that size.
