Description

The Energizer 4W GU10 is a dimmable LED bulb delivering 450 lumens at 6500K daylight colour temperature, designed as a direct replacement for 40W halogen GU10 bulbs in mains-voltage downlights and track lighting. The GU10 twist-and-lock base fits standard UK spotlight fittings without requiring a transformer or additional wiring changes.

Designed for task-oriented areas where high colour rendering and clarity matter, the 6500K daylight output suits kitchens, bathrooms, home offices and workshops where accurate colour perception is needed for food preparation, grooming, reading or detailed work. The dimmable function allows the light level to be reduced from full 450-lumen output down to a softer ambient glow using compatible dimmer switches, giving flexibility across different times of day and use cases.

At 4W power draw, the bulb uses 90% less energy than the 40W halogen it replaces while producing equivalent light output. The rated lifespan of 15,000 hours translates to approximately 15 years of use at 3 hours per day, reducing the frequency of replacements compared to halogen bulbs which typically require changing every 1-2 years. The bulb carries an Energy Rating of E under the updated EU energy label scale introduced in 2021.

Frequently Asked

Is this bulb compatible with all dimmer switches?

The bulb is dimmable but performance depends on the specific dimmer model installed. LED-compatible trailing-edge dimmers typically give the smoothest dimming range. Older leading-edge dimmers designed for halogen bulbs may cause flickering or limited dimming range. Contact us if you need dimmer compatibility advice before purchasing.

What does 6500K daylight mean?

6500K is a cool daylight colour temperature that produces a crisp, blue-white light similar to midday outdoor light. This colour temperature enhances visibility and colour accuracy, making it well-suited to task lighting in kitchens, bathrooms and workspaces. For warmer ambient lighting, consider a 2700K or 3000K warm white alternative.

How does the lifespan compare to halogen bulbs?

Energizer rate this LED at 15,000 hours, which is approximately 15 years at 3 hours of use per day. A typical 40W halogen GU10 bulb lasts around 2,000 hours or 1-2 years under the same use pattern, meaning the LED bulb should outlast 7-8 halogen replacements.

Can this be used in enclosed downlight fittings?

LED bulbs generate less heat than halogen but still require some ventilation for the driver electronics. Most standard downlight fittings allow sufficient airflow, but check that the fitting is not fully sealed or fire-rated without LED compatibility. Excessive heat buildup in fully enclosed fittings can shorten LED lifespan.
