Description

This is a GU10 LED spot lamp that draws 4.9W and gives 345 lumens, which the pack rates as the equal of a 50W conventional spotlight. The light is warm white at 3000K, the softer end of white light and close to what an old halogen spot gave, noticeably gentler than the 4000K and 6500K versions of the same shape. The lens is frosted rather than clear, and the light leaves it as a wide cone of about 100 degrees rather than a tight circle. The cap is the familiar twin pin GU10, which pushes in and locks with a quarter turn.

GU10 is the cap fitted to most UK ceiling downlights, track heads and plug in spotlight bars, so this goes straight into what is already in a kitchen, hallway or living room ceiling. The wide cone suits general lighting rather than picking out a single object, and across a row of four or six downlights it fills the floor more evenly and leaves softer scallops on the walls. If you are relamping a whole ceiling, use one colour temperature throughout: a single cooler lamp in a warm white run shows up from the doorway.

This lamp is not dimmable, so put it on a plain on/off switch; on a dimmer circuit an undimmable LED can flicker, buzz or fail early. The pack prints a lamp life of 10 years or 10,000 hours and more than 10,000 switching cycles, so frequent flicking on and off in a hall or on a landing is not a problem for it. The pack carries energy class G. It runs on 220 to 240V mains and is mercury free. Each unit is one lamp, and the minimum order is 5, sold in multiples of 5. Will this fit my existing halogen spotlights?

If the old lamp has two short pins that push in and twist to lock, it is a GU10 and this replaces it directly, with no driver or transformer needed.

How bright is 345 lumens in a downlight?

The pack puts it level with a 50W conventional spotlight, so a run of four to six lamps lights a typical kitchen or hallway ceiling comfortably.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?
