Description

This is a GU10 LED spotlight rated at 4.7W, giving 345 lumens of daylight white light at 6500K, and it comes as a pack of six bulbs: five plus one extra. The GU10 cap is the mains voltage twist and lock type, with two squat pins that you push in and turn a quarter turn to seat. Because the lamp is LED rather than halogen, almost all of the 4.7W goes into light rather than heat, and the pack rates it as the equal of a 50W halogen spot.

Daylight at 6500K is the coolest white on the shelf: crisp and slightly blue, close to overcast midday light. It suits places where you are looking closely at something rather than relaxing, so kitchen ceiling runs over a worktop, a utility room, a garage, a workshop bench or a home office with recessed spots. Colours read true under it, which helps when you are cooking, matching paint or sorting laundry. In a sitting room or bedroom it will feel clinical next to a warm white lamp, so keep the two temperatures in separate rooms rather than mixing them along one ceiling.

The pack prints an F energy class and does not print any dimming information, so treat these as fixed output lamps and put them on an ordinary switch; a dimmer circuit wants a bulb marked dimmable on its own box. Buying six at once is the useful part: colour tone can vary a little between LED production batches, so re-lamping a whole run of four or five downlights together keeps a ceiling looking even, and the spare covers the next failure. Will these fit my existing halogen spotlights?

If the old bulb has two stubby pins and twists a quarter turn to lock, it is a GU10 and this lamp drops straight into the same holder at mains voltage.

Do I need a transformer?

No. A GU10 runs directly from the 230V mains. If your fitting feeds a small transformer, that is a 12V system and it takes a GU5.3 or MR16 lamp instead.

How bright is 345 lumens in a downlight?

That is a typical single spot output, near enough a 50W halogen as the pack rates it. Over a worktop, plan on roughly one spot per square metre.

Can I use these on a dimmer?

The manufacturer does not state a dimming rating for this lamp, so put them on a standard on and off switch. For a dimmer circuit, choose a bulb printed as dimmable.

What does 6500K daylight look like next to warm white?

Much cooler and slightly blue against the yellow of a 2700K or 3000K lamp. Mixing the two along one ceiling is very noticeable, so keep each room consistent.
