GU10 LED Bulb 3.4W 345lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 3000K

This is a GU10 spotlight bulb running on LED, drawing 3.4W and giving out 345 lumens at 3000K. The pack rates it as a replacement for a 50W halogen, so it is a like for like swap for the older spots that used to sit in kitchen and hallway ceilings. The two pins twist and lock into a standard GU10 holder, so there is no rewiring and no adaptor to buy. Light comes out in a narrow cone, as the pack prints, which keeps the beam tight rather than spilling it across the whole room.

3000K is warm white, a soft light close in tone to the halogens most GU10 fittings were designed around, so a swap does not change the character of a room. It works well over a kitchen worktop, down a hallway, in a run of ceiling spots above a dining table, and in track heads or picture lights where you want the light landing on something in particular. The narrow cone favours accent work, picking out a painting, a shelf or a chopping board, more than washing a large room evenly. Where you want broad, even cover, plan on more heads or a wider beam angle.

This bulb is not dimmable, so put it on a plain on/off switch; wired to an existing dimmer it can flicker, buzz or fail early. The energy label rates it class E and declares 4kWh per 1000 hours, and the pack prints a 25 year lifespan. It is rated IP20, which means dry indoor positions only. Each box holds one bulb, and the minimum order is 12, sold in multiples of 12, which suits doing a whole ceiling at once and keeping a spare or two back. Will this fit my existing spotlights?

If the old bulb has two stubby pins that push in and twist a quarter turn to lock, it is a GU10 and this will fit. Pins that pull straight out are a different cap.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. It is non dimmable, so use a plain on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit you can get flicker, buzzing from the switch, or early failure of the bulb.

Is 345 lumens as bright as the 50W halogen it replaces?

The pack rates it as a 50W replacement. Because the output is concentrated into a narrow cone, the pool of light underneath reads bright, while spill to the sides is limited.

What does 3000K warm white look like in a room?

Soft and slightly golden, close to old halogen spots rather than the blue white of daylight lamps. It flatters wood, warm paint colours and kitchen worktops in the evening.

How much area does the beam cover?

The pack describes a narrow cone, so expect a defined pool rather than broad cover. For even light across a whole ceiling, space more heads or choose a wider beam.

Why is the minimum order 12?

These are sold to us in trade multiples, so orders go out in twelves. That tends to match a full ceiling of spots with a couple of spares kept back.
