Modern, traditional or crystal: choosing a style

Style is the quickest way to cut the range down. Most of what we stock leans modern or contemporary: slim linear bars, cluster designs, branching arms tipped with smoked or amber glass, and pared-back ring and radial designs. These shapes sit comfortably in open-plan rooms and newer builds, and the minimalist pieces work well where you want plenty of light without visual clutter.

Crystal designs take the opposite approach, using faceted glass in gold or chrome frames to scatter light around the room, and they suit classic schemes and rooms with period detail. If you lean classic overall, our traditional chandeliers range is the better place to start, while our crystal chandeliers range gathers the sparkling options in one place. Somewhere between the two sit the alabaster designs, stone shades in calm, soft white finishes that pair naturally with warm white light.

Getting the size right

Size causes more disappointment than style ever does, so measure before you fall for anything. Most chandeliers in the range are 50cm wide or more, with medium, large and extra large options, and light counts run from three light designs up to tiered pieces carrying dozens of shades.

Linear designs are measured by length instead. We stock panel and linear chandeliers from 600mm up to runs of 1 metre, 1.2 metres and 1.6 metres, which makes them the natural pick over rectangular tables and kitchen islands.

• Over a dining table, choose a chandelier roughly half to two thirds of the table width, and keep at least 75cm between the tabletop and the lowest point of the fitting.
• Where people walk underneath, keep the lowest point at least 2.1 metres above the floor.
• In a double-height hallway or above a stairwell, a long vertical drop fills the space; a ten light vertical suspension reads far better there than a wide, shallow design.

Where each chandelier works best

Dining rooms

The dining room is the classic home for a chandelier, and most of our range suits it. Centre the fitting over the table rather than the room, and match the shape to the furniture: a long linear suspension over a rectangular table, a circular or radial design over a round one. Living rooms

Living rooms reward softer, ambient designs. Alabaster and opal glass shades spread a warm, even light that works as the main evening layer, with floor and table lamps filling the corners. Warm white output is the norm across the range, which keeps the room feeling relaxed rather than clinical.

Hallways

A hallway chandelier earns its keep twice, once as light and once as the first thing guests see. Check the drop against your ceiling height before anything else; compact cluster designs suit standard hallways, while tiered and vertical pieces need the height of a landing or stairwell to hang properly.

Kitchens

Over an island, treat a linear chandelier like a row of pendants: run it along the length of the island and keep roughly 75 to 90cm of clearance above the worktop. The island suspension designs in our range are made for exactly this spot.

Materials and finishes

Alabaster leads the range, appearing across ring, tiered, panel, linear and cluster designs in soft white and brushed brass. Beyond that we stock metal and stainless steel frames, opal, smoked, amber and frosted glass, clear acrylic spheres, crystal, and leather-shaded designs.

On finishes, white and soft white dominate, followed by brushed brass and brass, matt black, gold, chrome and polished chrome, with copper, nickel and light grey appearing on selected pieces. Neutral and monochrome palettes cover most of the range, so matching an existing colour scheme is rarely a struggle.

Integrated LED or replaceable bulbs

A good share of the range uses integrated LED, where the light source is built into the fitting itself. The plus side is a slim profile and even light across alabaster and acrylic surfaces that a visible bulb cannot match. The trade-off is that the light source is part of the fixture, so check the specification before you buy if you prefer swapping bulbs yourself.

Many others take standard E27 or E14 lamps, which lets you choose your own brightness and pick up replacements anywhere. Either way, warm white is the most common colour temperature here, and IP20 ratings are the norm here, which means dry indoor rooms only. Delivery and returns

UK delivery is £14.99, and orders of £99 and over qualify for free UK delivery. If a chandelier is not right once it arrives, you can return it within 14 days of delivery; return postage is paid by you and refunds are made in line with our returns policy. Given the sizes involved, we recommend keeping the packaging until you are sure.
