Jacquard florals

Some of our floral cushions are jacquards. A jacquard loom lifts every thread on its own, so the flowers become part of the fabric itself instead of sitting on its surface, and the design has a gentle texture you can feel under your hand. A woven floral keeps its detail well over the years, with nothing on the surface to wear away. Jacquards often work in a limited palette, such as gold on blue or cream on green, which gives them a classic look that sits well with antique wood and traditional sofas. Velvet, cotton and polyester

Most of our floral cushions are made from polyester, which holds strong colour and is easy to live with day to day. About a third are velvet, where the soft pile gives the flowers a rich, deep look and catches the light as you move past. More than a quarter are cotton, with a matt, natural feel that suits a relaxed or country room. Green is the colour we offer most often, which suits a pattern drawn from leaves and stems. It sits comfortably with wood and natural fibres, and it ties a room to the view from the window. Blue florals feel fresh and calm, and they work well in a bedroom or a room with white walls. Pink brings warmth, from a soft blush to a deeper rose. Mixing florals with other patterns

Florals are easy to combine. Pair one floral cushion with two plain ones in a colour picked from the design, and the flowers become the focus of the sofa. For a fuller look, set a large floral beside a smaller one in the same colours, or add a stripe or a check that shares one shade with the flowers. Keep to three or four colours across the whole arrangement and the patterns will sit together rather than compete for attention. Arranging cushions on a sofa and a bed

On a sofa, start with the larger cushions at the ends and work inwards with smaller ones, so the group steps down in size towards the middle.
