Description
This is a 55 x 55cm cushion woven as a jacquard, which means the pattern is built into the cloth on the loom rather than printed onto its surface. The face carries the Snakes Head design, a William Morris pattern dating from 1876, worked here in a soft sage green ground with cream foliage and warm gold flowerheads. The chenille yarn gives the raised parts of the design a gentle, velvety weight you can feel with a fingertip, and because the colour is woven in it will not fade off the top of the cloth the way a print can.
A 55cm square is the larger end of the standard cushion range, which makes it a good anchor at the back of a sofa or bed with smaller cushions layered in front of it. The green-and-gold palette sits happily against wood furniture, natural linen upholstery and warm neutral walls, and it works particularly well in a living room or a bedroom where you want pattern without a strong single colour taking over. Because the reverse is a plain sage chenille it can be turned over for a quieter look on the days you want less pattern in the room.
The cushion is finished with a piped edge, which defines the shape and helps the corners hold their form, and a plain chenille reverse that matches the ground colour of the face. A zip closure runs along one edge so the cover can be taken off easily. The composition is 100% polyester throughout, a hard-wearing fibre that holds its colour well and copes with everyday use. It belongs to our wider Snakes Head range, which carries the same 1876 pattern across other pieces for the home.

Frequently Asked
Is the pattern printed or woven in?
It is woven as a jacquard, so the design is built into the cloth on the loom rather than printed on top, which keeps the colour deep and hard-wearing.
What is chenille and how does it feel?
Chenille is a soft, slightly fuzzy yarn that gives the raised parts of the pattern a velvety, tactile weight, so the design has a gentle relief you can feel.
Does the cover come off?
Yes, there is a zip closure running along one edge, so the cover can be removed from the pad whenever you need to.
What size is it and what does it suit?
It measures 55 by 55cm, which is at the larger end of the standard range and works well as a back cushion with smaller ones layered in front.
What does the back look like?
The reverse is a plain sage chenille that matches the ground of the front, so you can turn it over for a quieter, pattern-free look.
