Description

A small black LED engine, this is the light source at the heart of the Sunset range: a warm 2700K output of 510 lumens drawn from just 6W. The beam gathers into a controlled pool rather than spilling across a whole room, so the light lands where you point it. The black face sits back within its surround, which keeps glare down and stops the fitting pulling the eye upwards. It is made to drop into a Sunset recessed base, and it needs a driver to run it; neither comes with the engine itself.

We reach for these where a room wants even, unfussy light and nothing hanging in the way: kitchen worktops, a hallway ceiling, alcoves and shelf runs, or a line above a dining table. Because the spread is fairly contained, they work best lighting particular things rather than filling a whole space alone, so plan them as a row or a grid and let a table lamp or a wall light soften the corners. Run through a dimmable driver, the warm tone settles down well for evenings. Keep them to dry indoor rooms, away from shower zones and anywhere that turns damp.

The engine is double insulated, and the black finish reads quietly against a dark ceiling while showing a clean edge on a pale one. As the LED is integral there is no lamp to unscrew or swap out, and upkeep is simply an occasional wipe of the visible face with a dry cloth once the power is off, with no sprays or moisture near it. It carries a five year warranty. Bases in the range are offered in black, gold and white across several sizes, so the surround can either match the ceiling or be picked out against it. Drivers are bought separately.
