Description

Small, round and quiet in the ceiling, this is the compact end of the Sunset range of recessed bases. The visible face measures 65mm across, so it reads as little more than a white circle once it is in place. It is a base rather than a wired fitting, so the light source sits within it. The white finish is kept plain, which means that against a painted white ceiling there is very little to see. It is the sort of fitting that does its work and then gets out of the way.

We reach for the small sizes where light needs to be pointed rather than spread: over a run of worktop, along a hallway, or above a shelf of books. A line of them down a landing gives even light with nothing standing proud overhead. It suits anyone building a scheme from scratch who wants the ceiling to stay calm, and it suits smaller rooms where a pendant or a wall light would crowd the space. We would keep to one size throughout a room and vary the number of them instead.

The white face collects dust as any pale ceiling detail does, and a dry cloth run around the rim now and then is all it asks; nothing wet, nothing abrasive. It carries a three year warranty. We stock this size in black and gold as well, and the same base in wider diameters for rooms that call for a bigger aperture, so a whole house can be fitted out in one look. The black is the one we would choose under a dark ceiling, where a white ring would announce itself.
