Description

Sunset is a range of plain recessed bases, and this is the largest of them: a circle 215mm across the face, with a deep body behind it and a white finish. The visible edge is quiet, a simple ring with nothing on show to catch the eye, so once it is in place it reads as a clean disc in the ceiling rather than a piece of hardware. It is non-electrical, so the base does the shaping and the light source is specified alongside it.

We reach for the bigger Sunset bases where a room is better served by fewer, wider pools of light than by a grid of small apertures: a broad hallway, the area over a kitchen island, a sitting room with generous ceiling height. White on white means the rim more or less vanishes into a painted ceiling, which suits anyone who wants the light and not the fitting. It is one we would specify for indoor rooms about the house, whether in a matched run down a corridor or as a single point over a table or a favourite chair.

The base is white right through, front face and body alike, so there is no contrasting edge to draw the eye once the ceiling is finished. It carries a three year warranty. Looking after it is nothing more than a dry cloth over the rim when you dust the room, with the light switched off and cool beforehand, and no scouring pads or solvents near the white. We stock this size in black and gold too, and the white in four smaller diameters, which is useful if you want the same detail scaled down through a hallway and up again over an island. The base comes on its own, ready for the light source you choose.
