Description

Small, round and finished in gold, this is the compact end of the Sunset range of recessed bases. The visible ring measures 11cm across, with a shallow body behind it, so it reads as a neat circle of colour in a plain ceiling rather than a piece of hardware. It is non-electrical and has no lamp holder of its own, so the light comes from the fitting it houses. We stock this size in gold, black and white.

Gold trims work best where there is already warm metal in the room, so we tend to reach for these in kitchens with brass handles or taps, in hallways with older door furniture, and above shelving where a glint at the ceiling line is welcome. The small aperture suits close spacing, which makes it useful for a run of light down a corridor or over a worktop, and for rooms where several modest pools of light are better than one bright source. If you would rather the ceiling detail disappear, the white version of the same base is the one to choose.

The finish is an even gold across the rim, and the body is light in the hand. Fingerprints show on polished metal more readily than on paint, so we would keep handling to the edge of the ring and give it an occasional pass with a dry, soft cloth; solvents and cream cleaners will dull it. It carries a three year warranty. Sizes step up through the range, and the gold finish runs across all of them, so a single scheme can mix a smaller base over a work surface with a wider one in the middle of a room. No lamp is supplied with the base.
