Description

The heart of the Sunset range is this small black LED engine, the part that does the actual work of lighting the room. Light comes out warm at 2700K, with 980 lumens from a 15W board, so the effect is closer to a soft household lamp than a cold commercial spot. Colour rendering is high, which keeps skin tones, timber and paint honest rather than washed out, and the beam is a medium spread rather than a narrow pin of light. The visible surround is chosen separately, so the look is yours to set.

We reach for an engine like this when the lighting should stay quiet and leave the furniture and the walls to do the talking. It suits kitchens, hallways, open-plan living rooms and bedrooms, and it works well in a repeated run over a worktop or along a corridor where a hanging fitting would be in the way. It needs a driver to run, and where you want the level to come down in the evening that driver has to be a dimming type. We would keep this one to dry indoor rooms, well away from showers and splashes.

The module and its rim are black, and the range carries recessed bases in black, gold and white across a set of aperture sizes, so the ring on show can match the engine or sit against it in a lighter tone. It is a double insulated fitting. For care, switch off at the circuit, give the module time to cool, then wipe the black rim with a dry lint-free cloth; nothing damp, and no cleaner sprayed into the opening. It carries a five year warranty. The recessed base and the driver are bought separately, and we stock the bases in all three finishes.
