Description

One of the smaller sizes in the Sunset range, this is a neat round recessed base in black, made to sit down into the ceiling so that only the rim shows from below. The outer edge measures a shade over 11cm, with a short body behind it. It is non-electric, which is to say the base is the housing and the light itself comes from the fitting held inside it. The black is a matt, even finish that keeps the aperture quiet rather than drawing the eye upward.

We use bases like this where a room needs light without a fitting hanging in it: low ceilings, a narrow hallway, a landing, or the run of ceiling over a kitchen island or a set of shelves. The small aperture suits a close rhythm across a ceiling, and it sits happily in a room where the ceiling is already busy with coving or a papered finish. Black is our choice against a dark or strongly painted ceiling, where a pale rim would announce itself. In flats and box rooms it earns its place, where a pendant would sit too low to be comfortable.

The visible face is finished throughout, so the rim and the inner edge match rather than showing a bright cut line. Keep it simple in use: a dry cloth over the rim now and then, and nothing wet or abrasive near the finish. It carries a three year warranty.
