Description

The Zoom is a twin fixed rectangular recessed downlight with a white cast aluminium housing measuring 170mm x 90mm x 36mm deep. Two GU10 lamp holders are set into recessed bezels behind a white trim plate, each accepting bulbs up to 50W on 220-240V mains (bulbs sold separately). The IP65 rating seals the fitting against dust and water jets, making it suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, covered outdoor soffits, and high-humidity kitchen environments.

Designed for recessed ceiling installation, the Zoom requires a cut-out of approximately 160mm x 80mm and a void depth of at least 50mm above the ceiling to accommodate the housing and spring clips. The twin-bulb configuration delivers higher lumen output than single downlights, making it useful for task lighting over kitchen worktops, vanity units, or for general ambient coverage in hallways and utility rooms where ceiling height is limited. The fixed bezels cannot be tilted or rotated once installed.

The white powder-coated aluminium finish matches common white ceilings and blends with light-painted interiors, while the cast aluminium construction provides corrosion resistance in damp environments. The rectangular form factor allows two downlights to be positioned closer together on a single joist run without overlapping cut-outs, and the low 36mm height means the fitting works in shallow ceiling voids where deeper round downlights would not fit.

Frequently Asked

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating makes the Zoom suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, provided the GU10 bulbs themselves are rated for enclosed fixtures. For zone 0 (inside the bath or shower tray), IP67 or higher is required.

What bulbs does it take?

The fitting takes two GU10 bulbs up to 50W each. GU10 bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit LED GU10s between 4-7W and 3000K-4000K for general lighting, or higher wattage halogen GU10s where brighter task lighting is needed.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

The housing is 36mm tall, so a minimum void depth of 50mm above the ceiling is recommended to allow clearance for the spring clips and wiring. Shallower voids may require the joists to be notched.

Can the bezels be angled or rotated?

No. This is a fixed downlight — the two bezels point straight down and cannot be tilted or rotated once installed. For directional lighting, see the adjustable versions in the Maytoni Zoom range.
