Description
This resting lion figurine is a resin piece sculpted so that every part of him looks like grained, weathered wood. He lies with his front paws stretched out before him and one hind leg drawn up, his tail curling round behind, while his head is lifted and turned a little as if watching something far off. The mane falls in thick, layered pieces like split bark, and the body is built from smooth panels with fine grain lines, a knot ring at the hip and pads picked out on the upturned back paw. The colour is a warm orange brown, with pale beige highlights along the grain, on the paws and across the muzzle. He measures 11cm tall, 18.2cm across and 9.2cm deep.
His low, resting pose suits a bookshelf, a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the corner of a desk, and at 11cm tall he fits easily beneath the shelf above. Being only 9.2cm deep, he needs very little room on a narrow ledge. The earthy browns sit happily alongside natural wood, rattan, linen and green plants, so he settles well into a living room, study, hallway or bedroom with a natural or safari feel. Because the mane is worked all the way round and the head is turned, he looks good from the side and from behind as well as from the front.
He is made of resin, also known as polystone, which holds the fine detail of the mane and the grain lines, and he rests on his own body and paws, so he needs no stand. Looking after him is simple: dust him with a soft dry cloth, using a soft brush to reach into the folds of the mane. We think he looks best with a stack of books or a trailing plant beside him, and as a gift he is easy to wrap and easy to love.
