Description

The Wistcombe small table lamp carries the same starburst pattern as the rest of its range, with a 300mm Tiffany-style shade in multicoloured leaded glass on a metal base, standing 445mm tall. The pattern radiates out from the centre of the shade, so the lines of the leadwork do as much work as the colour. It takes one 40W E14 golf bulb, supplied separately, and the whole lamp weighs 2.1kg.

We would put this on a bedside table, a hall console, a bookcase shelf or a desk corner, wherever you want a low, warm light rather than an overhead one. Because it is compact, a pair works well flanking a sofa or a bed without crowding the surfaces. The geometry of the pattern gives it a slightly graphic feel, so it holds its own in plainer, more modern rooms as well as in period sitting rooms. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor use.

The glass is cut and leaded piece by piece and then soldered, which is why colour balance and seam lines shift a little between shades. The base and shade carrier are metal, and the lamp is Class 2, double insulated, so no earth is needed. It is not rated for dimming, so pair it with a standard switch. Clean with a dry, soft cloth, using a barely damp cloth only where marks need it and keeping sprays off the solder. A Wistcombe flush ceiling light, inverted pendant and task floor lamp share the pattern if you want to carry it through a room.
