Description

The Wistcombe large inverted pendant is a three light ceiling light with a 490mm Tiffany-style bowl in multicoloured leaded glass, hung open side up so the light reflects off the ceiling. The starburst pattern radiates from the centre of the bowl, which reads well when you look up into it. The drop adjusts from 600mm to 1000mm, and it takes three 60W E27 GLS bulbs, supplied separately. It is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer, and the fitting weighs 2.6kg.

At 490mm this is the wider of our inverted bowls, so treat it as the main light for a sitting room, a dining room or a generous hallway with height to carry it. The upward throw gives an even, comfortable light with no glare, which is why inverted pendants work so well in rooms where people sit and talk. Pale ceilings reflect more light back than deeply coloured ones, so we would think about the paint above it too. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is cut and leaded panel by panel, soldered into a metal frame and hung on three chains from a metal ceiling rose, so no two bowls match exactly in colour or seam pattern. It is Class 1 and needs an earth at the rose, so a qualified electrician should install it. Dust the inside of the bowl with a dry, soft cloth, more often than you would a downward shade, and use a barely damp cloth for marks. A Wistcombe flush ceiling light, table lamp and task floor lamp carry the same pattern.
