Wistcombe Large Tiffany Table Lamp - Multicoloured

The Wistcombe large table lamp puts a 490mm Tiffany-style shade on a turned metal base, standing 620mm tall overall. The shade is made from cut pieces of multicoloured glass leaded into a frame, wide enough to spread light across a good stretch of a room rather than only the table it sits on. Two E27 GLS bulbs up to 60W each sit inside, giving it more output than a single-lamp table light. It weighs 4.3kg and bulbs are supplied separately.

This is a large lamp, so it wants a surface with room to spare: a console table in a hallway, a sideboard in a dining room, or a broad side table beside a sofa. With two lamps it can carry a living room in the evening on its own, which is why we tend to suggest it where you want to switch the ceiling light off altogether. It suits period houses, cottages and traditional rooms, and it works as the one decorative piece in an otherwise plain scheme.

Each shade is assembled by hand from individual pieces of glass, leaded into the metal frame, so the colour placement varies from lamp to lamp. The base is finished in a warm tone that sits behind the glass rather than drawing the eye. Dust the shade with a dry soft cloth once the bulbs are cool, and wipe marks with a barely damp cloth; keep polish and solvents off the leaded seams and wipe the base dry. How do I clean it?

Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then dust with a dry soft cloth or soft brush. A barely damp cloth lifts marks; dry it straight away and keep sprays and solvents away from the leading.

Is it dimmable?

No, this lamp is not rated for dimming. Standard switching is the way to run it, and a lower wattage warm bulb gives a softer light if you want one.

Is it heavy enough to be stable?

At 4.3kg the weighted base holds the wide shade steady. As with any large lamp, keep the flex tucked behind furniture so it cannot be caught.
