Description

The Wise is a 29mm diameter optical lens designed to narrow the beam angle of compatible recessed downlights to 15°, concentrating light into a tight, focused spot. Made from injection-moulded transparent plastic, the lens sits within the aperture of a recessed fitting to redirect the light beam from a wider flood pattern into a precise accent spot.

Designed for gallery lighting, retail display spotlighting, and residential accent applications where a narrow controlled beam is needed to highlight artwork, architectural detail or merchandise. The 15° beam produces a hard-edged pool of light approximately 0.5m in diameter at a 1.5m throw distance, making it suitable for directional spotlighting rather than ambient room illumination. The lens fits recessed downlights with a 29mm aperture diameter and 14mm depth clearance.

The plastic construction weighs less than 10g, so it does not affect the thermal performance or load rating of the host downlight fitting. The transparent finish allows the full lumen output of the installed bulb or LED module to pass through without colour shift, though the narrowing of the beam angle increases centre-beam intensity at the cost of spill light. The lens is field-replaceable, allowing the same recessed fitting to switch between flood and spot beam patterns by swapping lenses.

Frequently Asked

What downlights is this lens compatible with?

The Wise lens fits recessed downlight fittings with a 29mm internal aperture diameter and at least 14mm depth clearance behind the bezel. It is designed specifically for Maytoni Wise recessed downlight ranges but may fit other manufacturers' 29mm aperture fittings if the depth clearance is sufficient.

How does a 15° beam angle affect the light pattern?

A 15° beam creates a narrow, focused spot of light with a hard edge and high centre-beam intensity. At a typical 1.5m ceiling-to-surface distance, the light pool is approximately 0.5m in diameter. This is significantly narrower than a standard 40-60° flood beam and is used for accent spotlighting rather than general room illumination.

Does the lens reduce light output?

The lens redirects light into a narrower beam rather than absorbing it, so total lumen output remains similar to the bare fitting. However, the narrower beam concentrates those lumens into a smaller area, increasing centre-beam intensity while reducing spill light outside the beam cone.

Can the lens be cleaned?

Yes. The plastic surface can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth when the fitting is switched off and cool. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that may scratch or cloud the plastic.
