Description
This stoneware teapot takes the shape of a honey pot, with a glossy pale yellow glaze running over the top in thick drips, as if the pot has been filled right to the brim. Below the drips the body is a soft cream, tapering gently up from a wide base, and the word "hunny" is printed on the front in green lettering beside a tiny bee. On the lid sits a little figure of Winnie the Pooh in his red top, hands on his cheeks and a contented smile on his face. It stands 22cm tall, 20cm wide and 14cm deep, and it holds 990ml, a generous pot for sharing round the table.
It brings a gentle, storybook feel to a breakfast table or an afternoon tea tray, and between brews it looks just as charming on a kitchen shelf or dresser. The cream and yellow colouring sits easily with soft pastels and warm natural tones, so it suits a cottage kitchen as well as a bright modern one. We think it is a cheerful piece to give as a present, and just as much of a pleasure to keep for yourself and bring out whenever the kettle goes on.
The lid lifts off cleanly, and the seated Pooh doubles as its knob, so take hold of him gently when you lift it. The wide opening makes it easy to add loose tea or teabags and to rinse out afterwards. As with any glazed stoneware, we suggest washing it by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth, taking care not to knock the figure or spout against the tap. Set it out with a stack of cups and a plate of biscuits, and it turns an ordinary cup of tea into a small occasion.
