Description

The Windermere is a 645mm diameter wrought iron chandelier with six arms radiating from a central twisted stem, each arm terminating in an E14 candle socket with a shallow drip tray. The frame is finished by hand in a rust and gold patina that highlights the twisted metalwork and scrolled details, with darker rust tones in the recesses and brighter gold accents on raised surfaces. Each chandelier is UK-handcrafted by Elstead Lighting.

Designed for dining rooms, living rooms and entrance halls with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above, the Windermere provides six points of light in a 645mm spread, making it suitable for rooms of 15-25m² where ambient ceiling light is needed. The 1800mm chain allows the drop to be adjusted between 560mm minimum and 1990mm maximum during installation, letting the chandelier sit 700-900mm above a dining table or higher in a double-height entrance. The wrought iron arms curve outward in a relaxed scroll pattern that avoids the rigid symmetry of more formal chandeliers.

The rust and gold finish is applied by hand in multiple layers, so each piece shows slight variation in the distribution of rust tones and gold highlights depending on where the applicator lingered. This is a feature of the hand-finishing process, not a defect. The wrought iron frame weighs approximately 3.5kg, requiring a ceiling hook rated for suspension loads. The six E14 bulbs (sold separately) can be chosen as warm-white LEDs for everyday use or clear filament candles for a more traditional candle-flame effect.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take?

The Windermere takes six E14 small Edison screw bulbs, up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most buyers pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K, or clear filament candles for a traditional candle-flame effect.

Is the finish uniform across all pieces?

No. The rust and gold patina is applied by hand in multiple layers, so each chandelier shows different distribution of rust tones and gold highlights. This variation is a feature of the hand-finishing process.

What ceiling height is needed?

The minimum drop is 560mm and the maximum is 1990mm, adjustable on installation. For a dining table the chandelier typically sits 700-900mm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above. Higher ceilings can accommodate a longer drop.

How is the wrought iron maintained?

Dust gently with a dry soft cloth or feather duster. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the metal and do not use household sprays or polishes, which can alter the hand-applied patina finish.
