Description
The Winchfield is a 703mm-wide picture light with four E14 bulb fittings arranged along an aged brass arm, mounted on an oak-effect steel backplate. The arm extends 318mm from the wall on twin brass supports, allowing the light to project over the top edge of a frame and cast downward illumination across the artwork or mirror below.
Designed for larger framed pieces between 600-900mm wide, the Winchfield mounts directly above the frame with the oak-effect backplate sitting flush against the wall. The four-bulb configuration spreads light evenly across wider artwork, reducing shadows and hotspots that single-bulb picture lights can create on broad canvases. The adjustable brass arms tilt to direct light onto the specific area of the artwork that needs emphasis.
The aged brass finish develops a darker patina in recessed areas and around the ball joints, giving the fitting a period character that pairs with traditional oils, gilt frames and wood-panelled interiors. The oak-effect backplate is steel with a wood-grain print finish rather than solid timber, keeping the weight manageable for typical picture rail and plasterboard fixings. The combined steel frame and brass components give the fitting durability without the oxidation issues that solid oak can develop in humid gallery or hallway conditions.
Each of the four E14 fittings accepts candle-style bulbs up to 40W (bulbs sold separately). Most users pair the Winchfield with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K to provide gallery-style lighting without heat damage to oil paint or watercolour pigments.

Frequently Asked
What size artwork does this suit?
The 703mm width works best above framed pieces between 600-900mm wide. For narrower frames under 600mm, a shorter two-light or three-light picture light provides better proportional balance.
What bulbs are recommended?
The four E14 fittings each accept candle-style bulbs up to 40W. Warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K provide gallery-style lighting without the heat output that can damage oil paint, watercolours or photographic prints over time.
Can the light angle be adjusted?
Yes. The brass arm tilts on ball joints at the backplate mounting points, allowing the light to be angled to direct illumination onto the specific area of the artwork that needs emphasis.
Is the backplate solid oak?
No. The backplate is steel with an oak-effect wood-grain print finish. This keeps the weight manageable for typical wall fixings and avoids the expansion, contraction and potential splitting that solid timber can develop in changing humidity conditions.
