Description
The Hinkley Willoughby is a traditional outdoor wall lantern with an oil rubbed bronze finish, seeded clear glass shade and single E27 bulb fitting. The lantern measures 355mm high, 213mm wide and projects 219mm from the wall, sized for entrance porches, garage sides and garden walls where a traditional carriage-light aesthetic is wanted without excessive scale.
Built for UK outdoor use with an IP44 rating, the lantern protects against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under soffits and wall positions sheltered from direct rain. The metal frame and decorative knobs are finished in oil rubbed bronze, a dark brown-bronze tone that shows subtle variation across the surface to mimic aged metalwork. The seeded glass shade holds tiny bubbles and ripples that scatter light from the E27 bulb inside, creating a diffused glow rather than a focused beam.
The arched arm holds the lantern away from the wall, allowing light to cast both forward and downward. The circular backplate measures approximately 140mm diameter and covers a standard UK outdoor junction box. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W (sold separately), with most users choosing a warm-white LED filament style between 4-8W to match the traditional aesthetic. Hinkley provides a 5-year guarantee on the metalwork and weatherproofing.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The Willoughby is suitable for covered porches, wall positions under eaves and sheltered exterior walls. It is not designed for fully exposed positions where heavy rain would hit the glass directly.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2700K to match the traditional carriage-light style.
How far does it project from the wall?
The lantern projects 219mm from the wall surface when mounted. The circular backplate is approximately 140mm diameter and sits flush to the wall over a standard UK outdoor junction box.
Is the seeded glass replaceable?
The seeded glass shade is designed to be permanent to the frame. If damaged, contact Hinkley for replacement parts under the 5-year guarantee or for post-warranty glass replacement options.
