Description

This Western Digital 1TB internal hard drive is a 3.5" SATA drive from the GreenPower range, designed for desktop PCs, workstations and NAS systems where capacity and lower power consumption matter more than peak performance. The drive uses SATA 6Gb/s connectivity (backwards-compatible with SATA 3Gb/s) and runs at 5400 RPM, drawing 5VDC at 0.70A and 12VDC at 0.56A under typical load.

The GreenPower designation indicates the drive prioritises energy efficiency over raw speed, making it suitable for file storage, media libraries, backup drives and always-on network storage where the drive spends most of its time idle or in sequential read/write operations rather than constant random access. They suit bulk storage, media libraries and NAS systems where sequential read/write speed is adequate and power efficiency matters. For OS drives or databases needing frequent random access, a 7200 RPM drive or SSD is usually a better choice.

Can this be used in a NAS system?

Yes, provided the NAS chassis has 3.5" drive bays and supplies both 5V and 12V power over SATA power connectors. Check that the NAS firmware supports the drive capacity and SATA interface version.
