Description

The Venetian Rain is a half wall lantern in brushed bronze with rain-textured clear glass panels and ornamental detailing across the canopy and roof finial. The lantern takes a single E14 bulb (sold separately) behind the rain glass, which diffuses the light into a soft ambient glow across a doorway, porch or pathway wall.

Designed for external installation on doorways, under covered porches, or flanking garage doors where a classical lantern aesthetic is preferred, the half wall mounting sits flush against the wall rather than projecting on a bracket. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against rain splash and moisture ingress from any direction, making it suitable for exposed locations under eaves or canopies. The 298mm height and 171mm width suit standard UK door frames and typical residential wall mounting points.

The brushed bronze finish softens reflections and weathers to a deeper patina over time when exposed to the elements, while the rain glass texture hides water spotting and breaks up direct views of the bulb. The ornamental banding on the roof canopy and the ball finial echo Renaissance Italian metalwork, giving the lantern a traditional character that pairs with brick, stone and rendered facades. The fitting projects 95mm from the wall and weighs enough to require secure fixing into masonry or a structural backing board.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambiance.

Is it suitable for fully exposed outdoor locations?

The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and moisture from any direction, making it suitable for installation under eaves, canopies and covered porches. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or submersion, so avoid installing in locations with no overhead cover.

How is it mounted?

The half wall design mounts directly to the wall surface using screws through a back plate. The fitting projects 95mm from the wall once installed and requires secure fixing into masonry, brick or a structural backing board rather than plasterboard alone.

Does the bronze finish change over time?

Brushed bronze exposed to outdoor conditions will develop a deeper patina over time as the metal oxidises. This is a natural characteristic of bronze finishes and adds to the traditional character of the lantern.
