Description

The Velox 20A 4-pin lighting connector is a push-fit terminal block housed in a translucent purple polycarbonate shell, designed for loop-in-loop-out wiring in lighting circuits and emergency lighting installations. The connector accepts cable sizes from 1.0mm² to 2.5mm² across four live terminals plus a separate earth terminal, rated to 20A at 230V 50Hz.

Designed for installation in ceiling voids, junction boxes and cabinet enclosures where multiple lighting runs need to be joined or split, the Velox connector uses a maintenance-free push-fit mechanism that requires no screwdrivers or tools to terminate the cables. The see-through purple housing allows visual inspection of cable insertion depth and terminal contact without opening the connector, reducing the need to dismantle circuits during testing or fault-finding.

The polycarbonate construction provides impact resistance and dimensional stability across typical installation temperatures, while the IP20 rating allows use in dry indoor environments. The 153mm length and 48mm width give enough internal space to accommodate loop-in-loop-out configurations where multiple cables enter and exit the same terminal, a common requirement in emergency lighting circuits where battery packs and switched mains supplies run in parallel.

The connector splits into two halves that clip together once cables are inserted, with moulded alignment features preventing incorrect assembly. The purple colour coding helps identify emergency lighting circuits during maintenance, though the connector is suitable for standard mains lighting circuits as well.

Frequently Asked

What cable sizes does it accept?

The Velox connector accepts cables from 1.0mm² to 2.5mm² across all four live terminals and the earth terminal. This covers standard UK lighting circuit cable sizes including 1.0mm² twin and earth and 1.5mm² twin and earth.

How does the push-fit mechanism work?

Strip the cable to the correct length (typically 10-12mm), insert the bare conductor into the terminal aperture until it stops, and the internal spring clamp grips the conductor automatically. No tools or screws are required. To release, press the release tab on the connector while withdrawing the cable.

Can it be used for emergency lighting circuits?

Yes. The connector is rated for emergency lighting installations and the purple colour coding helps identify emergency circuits during maintenance. The loop-in-loop-out capability suits circuits where battery packs and switched mains supplies run in parallel.

Is the see-through cover removable for inspection?

The two halves of the connector clip together and can be separated to access the terminals if needed, but the translucent purple housing allows visual inspection of cable insertion depth without disassembly. This reduces the need to open the connector during testing or fault-finding.
