Description

The Varette is a slim LED bathroom mirror light in black: a long, narrow aluminium bar carried on a neat rectangular wall block, with a white plastic diffuser along the lower edge of the bar. It is 40cm long, 5cm high and stands 13cm out from the wall, a compact size for a smaller mirror or a single basin. The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to buy or change, and it draws 7W to give 850 lumens. Its IP44 rating means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live in a bathroom rather than only in dry rooms.

We think it is most at home above a bathroom mirror, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone, though it works as well over a dressing table mirror, a hallway mirror or a cloakroom basin. With the diffuser along the lower edge of the bar, the light is directed down towards the mirror and the person standing in front of it, which is what you want for shaving, make-up or brushing your teeth. Three colour temperatures let you suit the room: 3000K for a warm light in the evening, 4000K for a crisper neutral light, and 6500K for a bright daylight when you need to see detail. The black finish looks sharp against pale tiles and plaster, and sits well beside black taps and mirror frames.
