Description
A round globe lamp on an E27 cap, finished in opal so the light spreads evenly rather than showing a bright point. The shape is the big classic sphere, the sort that reads as part of the fitting rather than something hidden inside it. At 6.5W it gives 806 lumens, and the 2700K tone is the warm, slightly amber white most people want in a sitting room. It dims, so it can run at full output for reading and then drop back for the evening.
Globes like this earn their keep where the lamp is on show: open pendants on a plain flex, cluster fittings with several drops, or a wide metal shade that leaves the glass visible below the rim. The opal finish means you can look at it across a table without wincing. We reach for it in dining rooms, bedrooms and hallway pendants, and it suits anyone who has bought a bare-lamp fitting and wants something soft to put in it. A compatible dimmer is needed for the dimming to behave, and one is not included here.
The opal surface diffuses the output without draining the warmth out of it, and the screw cap drops straight into any standard E27 lampholder. For cleaning, isolate the light, give the lamp a few minutes to cool, then wipe the globe with a dry cloth; skip sprays and polishes, which leave a film on a diffusing surface. It carries a three year warranty. If you are lighting a row of pendants, we would fit the same globe in each one so the line reads evenly rather than as a set of mismatched shapes, and we would keep a spare in the drawer for the day one goes.

Frequently Asked
Will it dim on my existing dimmer?
It needs a dimmer suited to LED loads. Older dimmers designed for filament lamps can cause buzzing or flicker at the bottom of the range. No dimmer is supplied with the lamp.
How large is the globe?
It measures 95mm across and 111mm tall, so allow a little more space than a standard pear-shaped lamp, particularly in a narrow shade.
What does 6.5W compare to in old money?
It produces 806 lumens, which is close to a traditional 60W incandescent lamp, and the light is emitted all round rather than thrown in one direction.
How long should it last?
It is rated at 15,000 hours of use, and comes with a three year warranty.
Is the warm white too yellow for a kitchen?
At 2700K it is a soft, cosy white. It works well over dining tables and in snug corners; for worktops and task areas, a cooler tone is usually the better match.
