Description
Gold-tinted glass gives this globe a soft amber cast even before it is switched on, and once lit the colour of the light is a deep 2200K, closer to candlelight than to a standard warm white lamp. The envelope measures 80mm across, so it reads as a proper globe rather than a bulge on a stem, and the tinted glass softens the view of the light source inside. It draws 4W, screws into an E27 holder and is not dimmable, so we would pair it with a plain switch rather than a trailing dimmer.
This is a lamp we reach for where the bulb itself is on show: open pendants, cluster fittings over a kitchen island, a bare flex drop beside a bed, a wall light with nothing to hide behind. The tint takes the edge off the brightness, which suits snugs, dining rooms and hallway fittings hung at eye level. It is a light for atmosphere rather than for reading or chopping, so in a kitchen we would keep it to the social end of the room and put something brighter above the worktop. Fitters use them in rows over bar counters and long tables for the same reason.
The body is glass, with the gold worked into the envelope so the colour reads evenly across the curve. It is light in the hand and needs nothing more than an occasional wipe with a dry cloth, once it has cooled and been taken out of the holder; keep household sprays and damp cloths well away from the cap. Suited to indoor fittings on a normal domestic mains supply. It carries a five year warranty. We sell it as a single lamp, so count the heads on a cluster or a multi-arm fitting before you order, and buy the set together if you want the tint to match across all of them.

Frequently Asked
How bright is it?
It gives 330 lumens at 4W. That is a gentle, decorative level of light, on a par with a small traditional lamp, so treat it as mood lighting rather than a main source for a working room.
Will it work on a dimmer?
No. It is a non-dimmable lamp and should be run from a standard on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit you may see flicker, buzz or a shortened life.
What size fitting does it need?
It takes an E27 screw holder. The glass is 80mm in diameter and 111mm tall overall, so allow for that inside a shade or glass surround.
What does 2200K look like?
Warmer than the usual warm white, with a distinct amber tone. It flatters brick, wood and brass, and looks best in the evening rather than as daytime light.
How long should it last?
It is rated for an average life of 15,000 hours, which is many years of ordinary evening use in a hallway or dining room fitting.
Can I clean the gold coating?
The colour is in the glass envelope, so a dry cloth on the cooled, removed lamp is all it needs. Avoid solvents and abrasive pads.
