Description

The Trosmessa is a flush LED ceiling light made of four curved arms that cross over one another above a square black canopy. Each arm is edged in black and carries a white plastic diffuser along its length, so the light reads as a set of soft white strokes against the ceiling. The body is steel and plastic in a black finish. It measures 40cm long, 40cm wide and 7.5cm high, so it sits close to the ceiling without dropping into the room. The LEDs are integrated, drawing 20W and giving 600lm of light at 4000K. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs indoors, in a dry room.

Because it hugs the ceiling, the Trosmessa suits rooms where a pendant would get in the way: a dining room with a lower ceiling, a hallway, a landing or a bedroom. At 4000K the light is a neutral white. It is clear enough for laying a table, reading a recipe or picking out clothes in the morning, without the blue edge of a cooler light. The crossed arms spread that light across the ceiling rather than from a single point, giving an even wash over a dining table or a bed. In a pale room the black frame draws a crisp outline, and against darker paint the white diffusers carry the shape.

There is no switch on the light: it is switched at the wall, and as it is not dimmable, it pairs with a standard on and off switch rather than a dimmer. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and carries an energy class of E. As a hard-wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a PDF download. Packed, it weighs 0.77KG. With the LEDs integrated, there is no bulb to buy or replace, so once it is fitted, the only job left is flicking the wall switch.
