Description
The Tournai is a 432mm-diameter outdoor pendant lantern with four E27 bulb fittings behind clear seedy glass panels, suspended on a chain with an adjustable 900-4000mm drop. The hand-cast aluminium frame carries a weathered bronze finish that replicates the patina of aged copper, with ornamental scrollwork on the crown and base typical of European carriage lantern design from the late 19th century.
Designed for covered outdoor areas with ceiling heights above 2.7m — entrance porches, verandas, courtyard walkways, or timber-framed pergolas — the pendant hangs from a bronze-finished chain that can be shortened on installation to suit the specific ceiling height. The IP44 rating certifies protection against splashing water from any direction, making the fitting suitable for sheltered outdoor locations where rain cannot strike the fitting directly. The four bulbs (sold separately) accept standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W each, providing 240W of combined output when fully loaded.
The seedy glass panels show fine bubbles and irregularities cast into the glass during manufacture, giving the aged appearance of hand-blown glass without the fragility. When lit, the seedy texture diffuses and softens the light, reducing glare while still allowing the bulb filament outline to be visible through the glass. The weathered bronze finish is applied over die-cast aluminium, offering the appearance of traditional bronze casting at a lower weight than solid bronze — the entire pendant weighs approximately 6kg when fully assembled, requiring secure fixing to a timber joist or masonry ceiling through the canopy plate.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean and where can this be used?
IP44 certifies protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and splashing water from any direction. The Tournai can be installed in covered outdoor areas such as entrance porches, verandas and timber-framed pergolas where the fitting is sheltered from direct rain. It is not rated for fully exposed positions.
What bulbs does it take and are they included?
The pendant takes four E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are not included. For traditional lantern appearance, pair with warm-white LED filament bulbs at 2700K. For brighter functional light, use standard E27 LEDs between 6-10W each.
Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?
The chain length is adjustable only during installation by removing links before wiring. Once the pendant is wired and the canopy fixed to the ceiling, the chain cannot be shortened without re-wiring. The 3000mm chain allows drops between 900mm and 4000mm depending on how many links are used.
How is the weathered bronze finish maintained outdoors?
The die-cast aluminium frame with weathered bronze finish requires minimal maintenance. Wipe occasionally with a dry cloth to remove dust and cobwebs. The finish is sealed and will not tarnish further, but avoid using abrasive cleaners or pressure washing which may damage the protective coating.
