The Torchiere is a wall-mounted uplighter built around a black-finished metal frame with decorative scrollwork at the sides and base, holding a conical etched opal glass shade. The single E27 bulb (sold separately) sits inside the glass cone and directs light upward, where the etched opal finish diffuses it across the ceiling and upper wall to create indirect ambient lighting.

Designed for hallways, landing walls, living rooms and bedroom accent positions where upward-cast light adds depth without glare, the Torchiere projects 170mm from the wall and spans 370mm wide. The scrolled metalwork references traditional wrought-iron detailing but the simplified profile and matt black finish allow it to sit equally well in period properties and contemporary interiors where a decorative accent is wanted without heavy ornamentation.

The etched opal glass is translucent rather than transparent, so the bulb itself is visible as a soft glow rather than a bare filament. This makes the fitting suitable for positions at or above eye level where the glass shade is in direct view. The metal frame is finished in a non-reflective black that absorbs rather than reflects room light, keeping the visual focus on the glass and the upward light cast. The E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose LED, halogen or decorative filament styles depending on the light quality and colour temperature wanted.

What bulb does it take?

The Torchiere takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient uplighting. The etched opal glass diffuses the light, so both filament-style decorative bulbs and standard LED bulbs work well.

How is it fitted to the wall?

The uplighter mounts to a standard UK wall box or direct to the wall via a backplate concealed behind the fitting. The 170mm projection from the wall means the fitting works on walls with a minimum clearance above furniture or at positions where headroom past the glass shade is not restricted.

Does it cast light downward or just upward?

The conical glass shade directs light primarily upward onto the ceiling and upper wall, where it reflects back into the room as diffused ambient light. A small amount of light escapes through the etched glass sides, but this is a true uplighter rather than a dual-direction wall light.

What finish is the metalwork?

The frame is finished in a non-reflective matt black that minimises reflections and keeps the visual focus on the etched opal glass shade and the upward light cast.
