Description

The Torchiere is a 350mm flush ceiling light combining a hand-forged black iron scroll frame with an opal etched glass bowl. Three curved iron tendrils rise from a central ceiling canopy to cradle the glass, which houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately). The opal etching on the glass bowl diffuses the light softly, reducing glare and casting warm ambient light across the room.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights under 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low, the Torchiere sits close to the ceiling with a projection of approximately 150mm. It suits hallways, bedrooms, small sitting rooms and entrance halls in both period and contemporary homes. The flush-mount canopy fixes to a standard UK ceiling rose and the glass bowl is held by the scrollwork rather than clips or screws, so the fitting appears as a single piece once installed.

The black iron finish is applied over hand-forged metalwork, giving each scroll a slightly varied texture and tone. The scrollwork references Gothic Revival and Arts & Crafts metalwork traditions without imitating them directly, making the fitting adaptable to interiors that lean traditional, industrial or mid-century. The opal etched glass shows a cross-hatch pattern that becomes visible when the light is on, adding texture to the diffused light output.

The E27 fitting accepts standard screw-base bulbs up to 60W, allowing the colour temperature and brightness to be chosen based on room use. Most users pair the Torchiere with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting in living spaces, or a cooler 4000K bulb for task-focused rooms like hallways and cloakrooms.

The fitting takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. The opal etched glass works best with warm-white LEDs between 2700K and 3000K for soft ambient light.

Can the glass bowl be removed for cleaning?

The glass bowl is held by the iron scrollwork and can be carefully lifted out once the bulb is removed and the fitting is disconnected from the mains. Wipe the etched glass with a dry microfibre cloth to avoid watermarks on the opal finish.
