Description

The Tomar is a small, quietly shaped exterior fitting with a softly curved body in sand black and a clear shade at each opening. It holds two GU10 lamps, so light is thrown from both ends rather than pooling in one direction, and the narrow profile keeps it close against the wall where space beside a door or window is tight. At roughly 160mm tall it reads as neat rather than bulky, and the matt sand texture stops the black from catching hard reflections in daylight.

We reach for this one on front elevations, porches, side passages and garden walls, particularly in pairs either side of a door where a larger lantern would look heavy. The two-lamp arrangement gives a graphic wash across brick, render or timber cladding, which suits a modern house but sits happily enough on an older one when kept low and repeated along a path. It takes GU10 lamps, and dimming is possible provided the lamps themselves are dimmable. Lamps are chosen separately.

The body is finished in a fine sand black that hides marks and rainwater spotting well, and the clear shades let the lamp do the work without tinting the beam. It is rated for exposed positions outdoors, so it will cope with weather on an open wall. For care, wait until the lamps are cold, then wipe the housing and shades with a damp cloth and dry them off; a soft brush lifts cobwebs and grit from the openings before they build up. It carries a two year warranty.
