Description

The Knightsbridge Tilt is a fire-rated GU10 downlight with a 15° tilt mechanism and a chrome bezel. The pressed steel housing carries 30/60/90-minute fire ratings in solid timber joists, 30-minute ratings in web-joist and I-joist systems, and recesses 118mm into the ceiling void with an 80mm cut-out diameter. The tilting inner lamp holder allows the GU10 bulb to be angled towards a wall, worktop or focal point rather than pointing straight down.

Designed for residential new-builds, loft conversions and commercial refits where fire compartmentation is required, the downlight installs using push-fit terminals that accept loop-in/loop-out wiring without requiring a screwdriver. The fast-fix spring clips grip the ceiling board from inside the void, allowing single-person installation from below without needing access above the ceiling. The 168mm minimum void depth accommodates the tilted lamp holder and the fire-rated insulation barrier built into the housing.

The chrome bezel sits flush with the ceiling surface, projecting just 5mm, and the 91mm outer diameter gives a compact profile suitable for corridors, bathrooms and kitchens where ceiling space is limited. The downlight accepts any standard GU10 LED or halogen bulb up to 35W (sold separately), with dimming capability determined by the specific bulb chosen. When paired with a 6W LED or lower, the fitting is IC-rated for direct contact with loft insulation without creating a fire risk.

Frequently Asked

What ceiling void depth is required?

A minimum 168mm void depth is needed to accommodate the tilted lamp holder and the fire-rated housing. The fitting recesses 118mm into the void, with the remaining space allowing clearance for the tilt mechanism and thermal insulation barrier.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means this downlight is not splash-proof and should only be installed in Zone 3 (600mm or more from a bath or shower) or outside bathroom zones entirely. For Zones 1 and 2, an IP65-rated downlight is required.

What does the 15° tilt allow?

The inner lamp holder tilts up to 15° from vertical, allowing the GU10 bulb to be angled towards a wall, picture, worktop or other focal point rather than pointing straight down. This is useful for wall-washing in corridors or highlighting kitchen worktops.

Is it safe to cover with loft insulation?

When fitted with a 6W LED bulb or lower, the downlight is IC-rated for direct contact with loft insulation. With higher-wattage bulbs (up to the 35W maximum), a clearance gap must be maintained around the housing to prevent overheating.
