Description
The Thornmere floor lamp stands 1530mm tall with a square multicoloured Tiffany-style leaded glass shade measuring 425mm across, on a metal column and base. Two 60W E27 GLS bulbs sit beneath it, so the lamp lights a corner properly, and bulbs are supplied separately. A square shade shows leaded glass differently to a round one: flat panels, straight lead lines and clean corners. The colour is in the glass and the pattern holds unlit. At 10.4kg it is solid and stays where it is put. It is Class 1 with an earthed lead.
A floor light is what you use when there is nowhere to put a lamp. Stand the Thornmere beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa, in a bay or in the corner of a study, and it puts light at the right height without taking a surface. The square shade suits rooms with strong lines: panelling, sash windows, a run of bookcases. Two bulbs give enough for reading. At 1530mm the shade sits above seated head height, so the light spreads rather than glaring.
The column and base are metal, the shade leaded glass, and the two are joined so the panels are not load bearing. Given the weight, move it by the column and not the shade, and set it somewhere it will not be knocked. Dust with a dry soft cloth; use a barely damp cloth for marks and dry straight after so the lead does not sit wet. Keep solvents and abrasive creams away. It is not a dimmable lamp. The square shape gives a more architectural line than the round shades in our Tiffany-style lighting.

Frequently Asked
Is the shade round or square?
Square, measuring 425mm across, which gives flat panels, straight lead lines and clean corners rather than the curve of a round shade.
What is it made of?
A multicoloured leaded glass shade in the Tiffany style, cut into panels and joined with lead, on a metal column and base.
How tall is it?
1530mm, which puts the shade above seated head height so the light spreads across a corner instead of glaring into the room.
Is it bright enough to read by?
Two 60W E27 GLS bulbs give a proper reading level beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa.
Can I dim it?
No, it is not a dimming fitting. Choose bulb output to set the level you want.
How do I look after the glass?
Dust with a dry soft cloth and use a barely damp cloth on marks, drying immediately. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams, which dull leadwork.
