Description
The Tarnwold is a domed wall light with a textured patina surface, standing 255mm tall and 140mm wide and reaching 138mm out from the wall. The antique brass patina is mottled rather than smooth and plated, so the metal looks aged from the day it goes up. A single E27 lamp sits under the dome, which throws light downward onto the wall below and keeps the glare off eye level. At 1.5kg it is a light fitting to handle, and the compact backplate keeps it tight against the plaster.
Downward facing wall sconces like this are useful in hallways and up a staircase, where you want pools of light on the wall rather than a bright bulb in your eye. We would put a pair beside a bed for soft reading light, and a single one over a console table works well. It suits rooms where the finish matters as much as the shape, so exposed brick, clay plaster, panelled walls and dark paint all sit happily with aged brass.
The body is metal throughout, with the patina finish worked across the dome and the backplate. It takes one E27 LED bulb of around 10W and is dimmable with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. Dust with a dry, soft cloth and leave the patina alone otherwise, because polish and metal cleaner will strip the aged look. It is rated IP20, so dry indoor rooms only, and as a Class 2 fitting it is double insulated and does not need an earth connection. A Tarnwold pendant carries the same dome and patina overhead if you want both in one room.

Frequently Asked
What is the patina finish like?
It is a mottled, textured antique brass surface rather than a smooth plated one, so the metal reads as aged.
How far does it project?
138mm from the wall, in a dome 255mm tall and 140mm wide. It weighs 1.5kg.
Which bulb does it take?
One E27 bulb, with an LED of around 10W a good fit. The dome hides the lamp from most angles.
How do I clean it?
Dust with a dry, soft cloth only. Metal polish and cream cleaners will lift the patina and flatten the finish.
Does it need an earth?
No. It is a Class 2 fitting, which means it is double insulated, though your electrician should still check the circuit.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer, which suits a bedside or a hallway at night.
