Description

The Tamar is a 290mm flush ceiling light with a polished gold mild steel frame and a cylindrical opal glass diffuser. The fitting sits 95mm below the ceiling and includes a 5.7W GX53 LED bulb, making it suitable for rooms where ceiling height is limited or a semi-recessed fitting is preferred over a full pendant. The IP44 rating allows installation in bathroom zones 2 and 3, as well as in corridors, landings, and entrance halls.

The polished gold finish on the mild steel backplate and thumbscrews provides a warm metallic accent that works with both traditional and warm-toned contemporary interiors. The opal glass cylinder diffuses the light evenly across the ceiling plane, reducing glare and creating a softer ambient glow than a clear shade would. The two visible thumbscrews and central finial are functional fixings that also serve as design details, giving the fitting a finished appearance from below.

The GX53 LED bulb sits horizontally inside the fitting rather than hanging vertically like a standard Edison screw or bayonet bulb, which is why the overall depth remains under 100mm. The 5.7W output is equivalent to approximately 40-50W of incandescent light, sufficient for a bathroom, cloakroom, or hallway up to 8-10m². The polished gold frame is sealed with a clear lacquer to slow tarnishing, though natural patina will develop over time with exposure to humidity.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3. Zone 2 is the area above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25m. Zone 3 is anywhere outside zones 0, 1 and 2 up to a distance of 2.4m from the bath or shower.

Is the bulb replaceable?

Yes. The fitting includes one 5.7W GX53 LED bulb. If the bulb fails, it can be replaced by unscrewing the glass diffuser (held by the two thumbscrews visible on the backplate) and twisting the GX53 bulb anticlockwise to release it from the socket.

What ceiling height does this suit?

The 95mm projection makes this fitting particularly suited to low ceilings below 2.4m, where a pendant or semi-flush with a longer drop would intrude into headroom. It can also be used on standard 2.4m+ ceilings where a flush profile is preferred over a hanging fitting.

What colour temperature is the LED?

Elstead GX53 LEDs are typically warm white around 2700-3000K. The exact colour temperature should be marked on the bulb base or packaging. If a different colour temperature is needed, aftermarket GX53 LEDs are widely available in warm white, cool white and daylight variants.
