Description

The Taiko is an 800mm island suspension light combining a geometric metal cluster in olde bronze with a neutral linen drum shade. Five E27 bulb fittings sit inside the metal framework, which projects below the fabric shade to create layered visual depth. The metal cluster forms an intersecting lattice of angular bronze rods that branch outward in a starburst pattern, visible through the open bottom of the drum.

Designed for dining tables and kitchen islands 1.8-2.4m in length, the Taiko provides distributed light across a long surface while maintaining overhead clearance. The adjustable drop ranges from 533mm to 1433mm, allowing the pendant to be set 700-900mm above a worktop or dining table depending on ceiling height. The five-bulb configuration gives enough output for task lighting during food preparation or dining without needing additional ceiling fittings in the immediate zone.

The olde bronze finish on the metal framework has a darker, aged patina that contrasts with the pale linen shade and softens under warm-white LED bulbs. The linen fabric diffuses upward light while the open base allows direct downward light through the bronze lattice, creating patterned shadows on the surface below. Made in the UK by Elstead Lighting, the fixture uses a polycarbonate lens inside the shade to further diffuse light and protect the fabric from heat discolouration.

The 800mm width works best over tables or kitchen islands 1.8-2.4m in length. For longer islands above 2.4m, consider pairing two Taiko pendants spaced evenly along the run.

Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?

The drop is set during installation by shortening the suspension rods to the desired length between 533mm and 1433mm. Once installed, the height is fixed unless the rods are re-cut or replaced.

How is the linen shade cleaned?

Use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner set to low power, working gently over the fabric surface. For marks, a barely-damp microfibre cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the linen or using household sprays.
