Description

The Sun King is a 305mm starburst pendant light with alternating slender metal rods and K9 cut crystal accents radiating from a central E27 bulb fitting, finished in hand-applied gold leaf. The design combines 12 solid metal rods with 12 faceted crystal pieces arranged in a sun-ray pattern, with the crystals catching and refracting light from the central bulb and any ambient sources in the room.

Designed for breakfast bars, kitchen islands and dining counters with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3m, the pendant drop is adjustable from 318mm to 1270mm on installation. The rod height locks with a threaded collar at the canopy, allowing the pendant to sit 700-900mm above a worktop or counter without needing additional chain links. The 305mm diameter keeps the fitting compact enough for narrow island runs while the radiating structure gives visual presence without bulk.

The gold leaf finish is applied by hand to each metal rod and shows subtle tonal variation across the surface depending on how the leaf settled during application. The K9 cut crystal pieces are faceted glass with higher optical clarity than standard glass, giving sharper light refraction when the bulb is on and cleaner reflections when the bulb is off. The pendant accepts any E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), with most users pairing a 6-8W warm LED or a decorative filament bulb to complement the exposed central fitting.

What bulb works best with this pendant?

The Sun King takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately). Most users fit a 6-8W warm white LED or a decorative Edison-style filament bulb, as the bulb sits exposed at the centre of the starburst and becomes part of the design when lit.

How is the drop adjusted?

The pendant rod is adjustable between 318mm and 1270mm. The height is set during installation by loosening a threaded collar at the ceiling canopy, setting the rod to the desired length, and re-tightening the collar to lock it in place.

How are the crystals cleaned?

The K9 cut crystal pieces can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or dust buildup, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water works, but avoid soaking the metal components or getting moisture into the E27 socket at the centre.

Is the gold leaf finish sealed?

Yes. The gold leaf is applied by hand and sealed with a protective clear coat to prevent tarnishing and allow gentle cleaning. The finish shows slight tonal variation between pieces, which is characteristic of hand-applied leaf rather than electroplated gold.
