Description
This strawberry stoneware plate takes the shape of a plump, ripe berry, glazed in bright red with a sculpted cluster of green leaves and a stalk rising at its top. Small raised seeds are pressed into the surface all over, picked out here and there in pale yellow, so the plate looks and feels like the fruit itself. The rim curves up gently around a shallow well. It measures 18cm across one way and 17.6cm the other, and it is 3.1cm deep, a neat side plate size that sits comfortably beside a larger setting.
We think it earns its place at the kitchen table and on the dresser alike. Use it for a slice of cake or a scone at teatime, a handful of summer berries, biscuits with a pot of tea, or a few nibbles when friends come round. Between meals it works just as well as a pretty catch-all on a dressing table or sideboard for rings, keys or wrapped sweets. Its red and green colouring brings a cheerful, garden-fresh note to a breakfast nook, a summer table or a country-style kitchen, and it sits happily beside plain white crockery, wooden boards and linen napkins.
The plate is made from stoneware with a glossy glazed finish that gives the red its depth and lets the sculpted leaves and seeds catch the light. The leaves stand proud of the rim, so give them a little room when stacking it with other plates. For everyday care, we suggest washing it gently by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth, as is good practice for glazed stoneware. Bring it out for a summer tea, or tuck it into a gift with a jar of homemade jam for a sweet, thoughtful present.
