Description
Solid oak, MDF, polyester and hardwood come together in our Step It Up Stool, a two-step design that gives us a little extra reach around the home. The upper frame and treads are built to take everyday standing weight, while the fabric storage bin tucked beneath keeps the whole piece working harder than a simple step. In Pearl White, it reads as a clean, bright neutral that we find settles easily into a kitchen, a utility room or a hallway without drawing too much attention to itself.
At 55cm wide, 38cm deep and 48cm high, this stool holds a steady, low footprint that slots against a wall or under a worktop when it is not in use. It weighs 7kg, so it is solid enough to feel planted underfoot yet light enough for us to carry from room to room. The two steps let us reach a high shelf or the top of a cupboard, and the removable bin below is handy for storing dusters, spare bulbs or the odd bits and pieces we would rather keep out of sight. We chose the polyester covering for the bin because it wipes down without fuss, a hard-wearing textile that stands up to daily use in a busy home.
We reckon on around 30 minutes to put this stool together, with the main frame, treads and bin assembling into a stable unit. The oak and hardwood elements carry the load while the MDF keeps the lines crisp and even. Kept indoors and given the occasional wipe, it should serve us well for years, whether we are using it to reach a high shelf or simply as a spot to perch. It is a small, practical piece that earns its keep in almost any room we put it in.
