Stark Fixed Square Recessed Downlight - Black IP65

The Stark is an 84mm square recessed downlight with a matt black aluminium frame and a fixed GU10 lamp holder. The square bezel sits flush with the ceiling once installed, with spring clips holding the fitting against the plasterboard or ceiling tile from behind. The IP65 rating protects the internal components against water jets and dust ingress, making this suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms and sheltered outdoor applications such as covered porches and eaves.

Designed for residential bathrooms, commercial washrooms, hospitality corridors and retail environments where ceiling space allows recessed fittings, the Stark requires a minimum ceiling void of approximately 70mm to accommodate the lamp holder and GU10 bulb behind the bezel. The fixed orientation directs light straight downward, providing functional task lighting rather than adjustable accent lighting. The 84mm cut-out size fits standard downlight apertures in UK new-build construction.

The matt black finish on the aluminium frame absorbs light rather than reflecting it, keeping the fitting visually recessive against dark or painted ceilings. The frame measures 84mm square on the visible face with a shallow 29mm projection into the ceiling void, suitable for installations where joist depth or suspended ceiling plenum space is limited. The fitting accepts any GU10 lamp up to 50W, giving control over colour temperature, beam angle and dimming capability depending on the chosen bulb.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects against water jets and steam, making the Stark suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2 (outside the shower enclosure itself but within 60cm of a bath or basin). It cannot be installed inside a shower enclosure, which requires IP67 or higher.

What size hole is needed for installation?

The fitting requires an 84mm square cut-out in the ceiling. The visible bezel covers approximately 90mm square once installed, hiding the cut edges. A ceiling void of at least 70mm depth is needed to accommodate the GU10 bulb and lamp holder behind the plasterboard.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. GU10 bulbs are sold separately. Most installations pair this with a 5-7W LED GU10 in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether warm or neutral white light is preferred.

Is the light direction adjustable?
