Description

The Hinkley Spyre is a 610mm diameter pendant light with six E14 candle bulb fittings housed behind a cream pleated fabric drum shade. Six vertical metal rods in a hand-hammered metallic matt bronze finish extend both above and below the shade, creating a sculptural profile that runs from the ceiling canopy through to a finial below the drum. The metal rods are arranged radially around a central vertical axis, with the hammered finish giving each rod a textured surface that catches light differently along its length.

Designed for dining rooms, kitchen islands and entrance halls, the Spyre suits spaces with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above where its full drop can be appreciated. The chain-suspended fitting allows height adjustment on installation between a 915mm minimum drop and a 3914mm maximum drop, giving flexibility to suit different room proportions. The six bulbs (sold separately, max 60W each) provide functional illumination for tables and surfaces below, while the fabric shade diffuses the light to prevent glare.

The hand-hammered bronze finish is applied to solid metal rods rather than a stamped or moulded frame, giving the fitting a 3-dimensional quality that reads as sculptural rather than purely functional. The metallic matt bronze tone sits between a warm brown and a dark grey depending on light conditions, pairing with oak, walnut and other mid-tone wood furniture as well as neutral wall colours. The cream fabric shade softens the industrial character of the exposed metal and provides a tonal contrast to the dark bronze.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Spyre take?

The fitting takes six E14 candle bulbs (small Edison screw) up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for dining and living areas.

What ceiling height is needed?

The minimum drop of 915mm means the fitting works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above when suspended over a dining table or kitchen island. For higher ceilings the chain can be extended to a maximum drop of 3914mm, though most residential installations use 1200-1800mm.

Can the drop be adjusted after installation?

The chain length is set during installation and requires taking down the fitting to change. Height adjustment is not a tool-free or on-the-fly operation once the pendant is wired and hung.

Is the fabric shade replaceable?

The cream pleated drum shade is a fixed component of the Spyre design. Replacement shades can be sourced through Hinkley's service network if damage occurs, though the shade is designed to last the life of the fitting under normal use.
