Description

The Sparx is a 27W constant voltage LED driver with 500mA output and 1-10V dimming capability, housed in a 280mm x 30mm slim metal enclosure designed to fit inside ceiling voids, false ceilings and concealed wiring channels. The driver converts mains 230V AC to a stable constant voltage DC output, providing flicker-free power to LED lighting systems including the Sparx modular linear track and compatible LED strips.

Designed for residential, office and retail installations where dimming control is required, the driver accepts 1-10V analogue control signals from compatible wall dimmers, lighting control systems and building management interfaces. The constant voltage regulation maintains consistent brightness across the connected LED load, preventing the dimming curve distortion that occurs with unregulated power supplies. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations only — install within ceiling voids or behind access panels, not in bathrooms or outdoor applications.

The 280mm length and 30mm depth allow the driver to fit within standard ceiling joist spacing and most proprietary ceiling systems without requiring a dedicated housing. The metal casing provides passive cooling through convection, with no fan noise. Terminal blocks on one end accept mains input and DC output wiring, with a separate pair for the 1-10V control signal. The driver carries a 5-year warranty from Ideal Lux, covering component failure under normal operating conditions.

What dimming protocol does it use?

The driver uses 1-10V analogue dimming, which is the standard protocol for commercial LED installations. It requires a compatible 1-10V wall dimmer or lighting control system — it will not work with standard trailing-edge or leading-edge domestic dimmers.

Can it be installed in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means it has no protection against moisture ingress and must be installed in dry indoor locations only. Suitable locations include ceiling voids above living rooms, offices, retail spaces and hallways. For bathroom installations a higher IP-rated driver (IP44 or above) is required.

What wattage load can it power?

The driver outputs 27W at 500mA constant current. It will power LED loads up to 27W total — for example, a single 27W LED strip, or multiple lower-wattage strips wired in parallel provided the combined load does not exceed 27W.

Does it need ventilation when installed?

The metal casing relies on passive convection cooling. Install with at least 50mm clearance around the body to allow air circulation. Do not install tightly wrapped in thermal insulation or within a sealed airtight box.
