Description

The Solarium is a 65mm diameter glare hood in grey powder-coated aluminium, designed to fit over the head of compatible outdoor spotlights to reduce light spill and control beam direction. The hood projects 50mm forward from the spotlight face, narrowing the cone of light and preventing glare from scattering into unwanted areas or into sightlines.

Designed for garden paths, driveways, patios and architectural uplighting where focused light is needed without overspill into neighbouring properties or windows, the hood clips or screws onto the front bezel of the spotlight (fixing method depends on the specific spotlight model). The 65mm opening diameter suits most compact outdoor spotlights rated between 5W and 15W. The hood does not alter the spotlight's IP rating but does reduce the effective beam angle by approximately 10-15 degrees depending on the base fixture.

The grey powder-coated finish is applied over aluminium, providing corrosion resistance in outdoor environments while blending into most contemporary garden lighting schemes. The coating is UV-stable and resists fading under direct sunlight. The aluminium construction dissipates heat away from the LED or lamp inside the spotlight, preventing thermal buildup that could otherwise reduce bulb lifespan. The Solarium hood is designed for Ideal Lux outdoor spotlights with a 65mm bezel diameter. Check your spotlight's diameter before ordering — the hood will not fit larger architectural spotlights or smaller recessed fittings. If unsure, contact us with your spotlight model number.

Does it reduce the light output?

The hood does not reduce the total lumens emitted by the spotlight, but it does narrow the beam angle by approximately 10-15 degrees. This concentrates the light into a tighter cone, which can make the centre of the beam appear brighter while reducing peripheral spill.

Is it weatherproof?

Yes. The powder-coated aluminium is corrosion-resistant and suitable for year-round outdoor use. The hood does not affect the IP rating of the spotlight itself — the spotlight's own seals and lens determine weatherproofing.

Can it be painted to match other finishes?

The grey powder-coat is UV-stable and designed to last outdoors without additional finishing. If you wish to repaint it, lightly abrade the surface with fine-grit sandpaper and use a metal-compatible outdoor spray paint. Painting may void the 5-year warranty.
