Description

This small ceramic vase takes its shape from the classic olpe, a rounded jug form with a gently swelling body that narrows towards a compact neck. Standing 23cm tall and measuring 24cm across at its widest, it holds a pleasing weight in the hand and reads as a soft, generous curve rather than a tall and slender profile. The glaze is a deep blue with the subtle tonal shifts you expect from fired ceramic, so the finish catches light differently across its surface and never looks flat.

As one of our smaller vases, it suits a mantel, a windowsill, a bedside table or the centre of a dining table. Fill it with a loose bunch of seasonal stems, tulips or ranunculus, and the rounded body supports the arrangement while the narrower neck keeps everything gathered. It works just as well left empty, where the blue glaze and rounded form make it a quiet piece of decoration on a shelf or beside a stack of books. Group it with plainer vases in neutral tones to let the colour lead, or pair it with brass and pale wood for contrast.

Ceramic is hardwearing and holds water well, so this is a practical choice for fresh flowers as well as dried stems. Wipe the outside with a soft damp cloth and rinse the interior between arrangements to keep it fresh. Avoid harsh abrasives that could dull the glaze, and lift rather than drag it across hard surfaces to protect both the vase and your furniture.

Frequently Asked

What is it made from?

It is made from fired ceramic with a blue glaze. The material is sturdy, holds water and shows the natural tonal variation typical of glazed pottery.

How should I style it?

Use it with a loose bunch of seasonal or dried stems, or leave it empty as a decorative piece. It sits well on a mantel, windowsill, bedside table or dining table.

Is it a large vase?

No, this is one of our smaller vases at 23cm tall and 24cm wide, suited to short arrangements and compact spaces rather than long-stemmed displays.

Can I use it for fresh flowers?

Yes. The ceramic holds water well, so it takes both fresh and dried stems.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the outside with a soft damp cloth and rinse the inside between uses. Avoid abrasive cleaners so the glaze stays intact.
