Description
This sitting horse figurine rests with its legs tucked beneath it and its head raised, turned slightly as if something across the field has caught its eye. Every part of the body is built up from overlapping sculpted pieces that look like weathered wood, with grain lines, knots and cracks running along the neck, flank and legs, and a ringed log end at the hindquarters. The finish is a warm orange-brown wood effect, paler and creamier down the chest, with dark hooves and a deeper brown mane falling over the neck. It is made from resin, a polystone, and measures 12cm high, 16.5cm wide and 8.5cm deep.
At this size it suits a bookshelf, a desk, a mantelpiece or a deep windowsill, where the wood-effect detail can be enjoyed up close. It sits happily among books, plants and other natural pieces, bringing a gentle countryside feel to a living room, study, hallway or bedroom. Because the horse looks to one side rather than straight ahead, we like it at the end of a shelf, angled in towards the room. It is also an easy gift to wrap and give.
The resin holds fine detail well, which is why the grain, the ears and the strands of the mane look so crisp. The figurine rests on its folded legs and body, so it sits steadily on a flat surface with no stand or fixing needed. To care for it, dust with a soft dry cloth, or a soft brush to reach into the grooves, and wipe with a slightly damp cloth if needed, then dry it off. Set it beside a trailing plant or a stack of old books and it looks as though it has wandered in from the paddock.
